i can say that as a child, i had the good fortune of not being forced to eat brussel sprouts. if that were the case, brussel sprouts would inevitably be met with the same resistance as tomatoes. with that being said, i am quite fond of brussel sprouts. i have recently discovered them for myself in my kitchen and have only made them one way. oven roasted and heavily salted. i use a recipe by ina garten where she likens the salting of the brussel sprouts to the salting of french fries. that’s what sold me. i have yet to be disappointed. how do you like your brussel sprouts?
oven roasted brussel sprouts
recipe from ina garten
1 1/2 pounds of brussel sprouts
3 tbsp of olive oil (i used grape seed oil)
3/4 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp ground pepper
preheat oven to 400 degrees F
rinse and clean the sprouts, remove tough steams and yellow leaves. after they are dry, toss with olive oil and pepper. place them on a baking sheet and roast for 35-40 minutes, give them an occasional shake from time to time. cook until the are brown and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. salt s’more and enjoy!
